Jennifer Gibson graduated from Spelman College in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Ms. Gibson graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1998 where she received the Carl J. Ruskowski Clinic Award which is given to students who demonstrate excellence in the practice of law.
Jennifer Gibson began her legal career as a clerk to Judge R. Guy Cole Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, later coming to California to practice as an associate at Cooley Godward LLP in Palo Alto. She also served as Extern to Honorable Stephen Reinhardt, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1996.
In January 2004, Ms. Gibson began a solo practice in Elk Grove specializing in appellate work. She handles civil appeals and writ practice and provides research and writing services to attorneys. She drafted the winning brief in Stone v. Davis, an important family law decision regarding transferred jurisdiction over child support orders.
In 2007, Jennifer Gibson began serving as a workshop leader in the Appellate & International Advocacy course at McGeorge School of Law. She joined the faculty of McGeorge full-time in 2009. Professor Gibson was selected to serve on the inaugural panel of mediators for the California Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District’s Appellate Mediation Program.
In 2009, Ms. Gibson served on the Sacramento County Bar Association’s Amicus Committee. The Amicus Committee evaluates requests for the Sacramento County Bar Association to submit amicus briefs on matters pending before California courts.
Jennifer Gibson currently supervises the McGeorge School of Law Appellate Advocacy Clinic, which represents indigent parents on appeals in dependency cases. She is a barrister with the award winning Anthony M. Kennedy Inn Court of Sacramento. Ms. Gibson also serves on the Board of Directors for the League of Women Voters, Sacramento County.
